Our very first registered sock. Grey wool, left foot, Desmond's. Found inside a duvet cover when we finally washed the spare-room duvet, which we should have done sooner, which is not the point. It had been on the guest bed the whole time. Every guest slept on it. Nobody said.
Lost in a hotel laundry in one country, found in a suitcase lining in another country five years later, by the same family, on a different holiday. They sent us a photo of the pair together on a balcony. We have it on the fridge.
Found under the dog. The dog had been lying on it, specifically, for eleven days. The dog was not sorry. We list it as a reunion because the sock wanted to come home; the dog's feelings are its own business.
We put this one here on purpose. The striped birthday sock is still out there. Its partner is still in the drawer. Some reunions are only "not yet." We keep a space on this page for it.
A reader sent back a sock she was sure was ours. It wasn't. It was nobody's we knew. She asked if she could register it as found anyway, so it would at least be on a list somewhere. We said yes. It's on the list. It is the only sock on the Registry that is found and not lost, and we're fond of it.
